Hold down the A and B button during the opening animation until the animation ends, then you will see a hidden screen says"Death & Non-Death Free Select Mode OK!". After that, you can select Non-Death mode in the "Configuration System".

When the title screen appears, select the ''Configurate System'' option. Place the Sound Test on #5 and go up to ''Area'' then use the Left and Right buttons to choose your level.
